A few weeks ago, more precisely 9th October, I went for my first kayak trip! Which was amazing I don’t remember that much the details, but I’ll try to write as much as I can remember.

Well, it started with my team (again, they are amazing) and they found this deal for 13€ a half day kayak or something alike. Nice deal, for irish standarts, so we bought several tickets for us

Ireland is a very peculiar country, amazingly green (I wonder why…) and with very few metropolitan areas, I think the fact that Ireland has just 5 million people explains the fact, therefore things that we would assume as normal like phone coverage, isn’t that good outside the cities because they just don’t need it (that much), and the place where we have been is like a black hole, no civilization

We went for sea kayak, though it was a bay and the website says that it’s seal’s watching kayak or something alike…, however no seals But a lot of fun As I said before, it was my first kayak experience, so the first minutes I had to manage how to deal with the pedal, the kayak, with myself on the kayak, etc. Really funny and at first seemed quite hard, but it isn’t

When we all managed to deal with the kayak and the pedals, we started our tour throughout the bay, that bay has a few isles quite small, so we headed to one of them. The one, according to the girl at the kayak place, that would be more likely to find seals…, nop…, no seals And I not even reached that isle. And why not? Because some things only happen to me

I was quite far away from the dock, and close to the isle, however the wind was quite strong and against my route…, what happened to me? My pedal broke in half!!! I had to options:

• Keep my path, and fighting against the wind
• Going back and ask for a new pedal

Guess I chose the second one, and it was REALLY hard! With half of a pedal is really hard to move a kayak and going straight with it, even worst when the wind is pushing you to the rocks and you really can’t rest nor even for a few seconds. I don’t know how long did I take to reach the dock, but it was really hard!

When I reached the dock, I asked the girl for another pedal and she gave me another broken one…, but that one I could see that was broken. I immediately said no to that one, and she said that that one was the only one for adults left…, not I took a smaller one for kids :X Ok, better a smaller one than another one broken!

When I went back to the bay, my colleges were already heading to the second isle, which is closed to the dock, so I went straight there! And now pedaling seemed really easy…, after several minutes pedaling with half of a pedal, even a pedal for kids it’s easier to handle if not broken!

That morning was really amazing, the next days we all were totally sore…, but the fun totally worth it!

After the kayak we went back to Cork, a stop for lunch in a small town (without phone coverage), and then home! The Kayaking 2nd part should be soon, scheduled for 13th November Let’s see, that one seems even more promising :D

My closest friends, and now some colleges of mine, are aware of one of my precious gifts…, I have the ability to make myself invited to almost everything Not always I am well succeeded…, but I still keep trying Well, today was more or less the same, I heard some colleges of mine planning a hiking trip and I asked if I could join them, immediately they said yes and that was the start for the amazing day I just had

I knew nothing about the hiking, I asked nothing about it! I just knew I should buy some hiking boots…, and I did it! If it was one month ago, I would stay at home…, thankfully now I can spoil a little bit myself and I did it, I bought one of those boots that just saved my day today! Several times!

I woke up at 7am, everything already packet and some food on the fridge just waiting to be picked and packed, I prepared some scrambled eggs and ate it along with a tomato…, usually I just drink milk at breakfast but I thought I should eat something more…, heavy? And I started my trip the other 11 fellows! About one hour until the bottom of the “hill”, yes, I thought it was hill walking…, and I knew I was nearby Killarney, which I have never heard before so it was the same for me…, I was nearby “X”.

We started the climbing…, holy mother of gosh! The first stage was so steep!! But in a kind of concrete, which wasn’t that bad…, or not…, the way back we wish we had no concret at all! But well, let’s proceed! The view is just amazing, I was all the time magnified with the view, in respect of irish culture and sightseeing, I am totally a virgin so maybe that’s why I was, so repeatedly, saying “wow”! I became kind of boring after a while, but I don’t care! It was really WOW!

After the first stage, we arrived nearby a lake, and then the mud bath! We had to pass through a bog, that was the first time I thanked for every single cent I payed for my boots…, I totally bury my leg until the knee and it didn’t got wet! The same I can’t say about my pants…, I was wearing jeans (what a smart move for a hiking day) that after that moment became the “shitty” jeans…, not that wet though, but kinda of full of mud…

The the first hill, it was totally ok, no problem at all just a little bit steep but nothing like the warm up stage. From the top of that hill I saw what I thought it was our goal…, and I said “I can’t do that!! It is fucking high!!!” I am so naïve…, that was just the first of three peaks!! Also the hardest, but well…, it was REALLY HARD!!!

The first peak I think it took almost a quarter of our time to get there, we arrived there around 1pm if I can recall exactly and then we had lunch there. Carrying around 5lts of water didn’t help as well…, it was a really hard first peak! A lot of sheep and photos in between and climbing climbing climbing…, funny thing is that we took the hardest path and we only realized that when we were coming back and we saw the proper trail…, from the top we had a better view from what we should expect by then

The second peak…, well, first we had to go down from the first peak, but through the other side…, we didn’t climb peaks just for fun, that was really the trail to get to the top of the third peak. Something I forgot to mention, we had 3 dogs with us, two big ladies and a tiny man They were part of our fun, and they are really energetic! Oh gosh…, sometimes I wished I were a dog…

As I was trying to tell, the second peak, not that hard as the first one, but quite “sharp”. Both sides of the hill really steep and we had to ensure we did it safely, I think that is what makes that peak harder, not the path itself but the safety of it.

Then the third and last peak…, it was the easies that one, quite bigger and only our tiredness made it harder because the trail isn’t hard at all. On the top, I finally found out where I was…, Carrauntoohil, nothing just the highest peak in Ireland! What a great way to celebrate my first month in Ireland! And then…, talking about Ireland…, rainy weather…, that wasn’t pleasant at all and made the way back more challenging!  The rain wasn’t harsh, but the foggy yes…, that kinda of freaked me out, the first (now the last) peak was really challenging and now slippery…, yes, I was really afraid of what I could expect now.

The way back was really easier than I thought, of course we already knew the path, even foggy we could see the next 10m so it was enough not to get lost nor last minute surprises, as I said before, the way down of the first peak was easier because we did it through the proper trail, still hard for our tired bodies, but easier. The mud bath was changed, from the top we saw another path around the mud which we tried. Kinda of watery, but better than mud and no surprises at all. We did it around the lake, which was great because the dogs could swim and getting clean After that, the last break where we ate the last food The only part left was the warm up steep trail of concrete…, it really didn’t help because it’s hard to break while going down and the ground was really harsh which also didn’t help to the more than tired legs…

I was so happy when I felt straight land again! Happy, wasted and with an almost smilie on my face Not a big smilie because nor my facial muscles I could move after that long day…, 7 hours and a half hiking! Oh, I love my new and already dirty boots

Well, the talk is more architecture-oriented, however everything related with environment makes me bump a little bit, even more when it is environment and energy as a whole.

Alternative and Renewable Energies is an area of my personal interest, maybe someday I might even transform my curiosity into routine. A geeky computer guy with passion by environment and energies…, does it even make any sense?

O Dia Mundial sem Carros em que não fecham o transito não faz qualquer sentido, se eu não soubesse que dia é hoje nem tinha notado nada. No Marquês de Pombal o transito estava tão caótico como habitual, a fila para entrar no túnel igual e no metro nem notei um excesso de pessoal. Quem reparou que andaram carros eléctricos ou movidos a energia solar nas ruas? E bicicletas? Quem se arrisca a andar de bicicleta em tratas atestadas de carros? É pena, mas este dia passou ao lado de 90% das pessoas que cruzam Lisboa (e talvez também o Porto).

Não são só os gazes que imitem poluição, ruído também é poluição e não são os carros eléctricos que vão fazer grande diferença, tal como é necessário produzir energia eléctrica para que estes andem. Onde produzem essa energia? Porquê gastar essa energia quando podem usar transportes públicos em vez de irem sozinhos dentro de um carro “amigo do ambiente”?

É certo que há uma grande falha de transportes públicos realmente eficientes dentro de Lisboa e que este dia iria perturbar imensas pessoas, mas pelo menos certos factores tornar-se-iam evidentes. Por vezes é preciso incomodar para se fazer ver.

Ainda gostava de ver o eléctrico a circular novamente por certas zonas de Lisboa…

Sou defensor convicto do meio ambiente e do uso de transportes públicos, sou ainda mais defensor quando ambos se complementam. Exemplo disso foi o cartão Viva Viagem, cartão com um potencial enorme de incentivar as pessoas a pouparem papel e ao mesmo tempo usarem os transportes públicos, um excelente dois em um ambiente…, que olhando um pouco mais a fundo parece um dois em um de dinheiro a entrar.

Ora vejamos, ando com um cartão Viva Viagem na carteira com uma viagem Azambuja – Lisboa há umas semanas, hoje precisei de apanhar o comboio em Oeiras para Alcântara Mar pelo que pensei em carregar esse mesmo cartão com a dita viagem…, mas não deu. Surpresa das surpresas, o cartão que me custou 0,50€ que supostamente serve para poupar papel, para carregamentos e mobilidade entre transportes…, só dá para incrementar viagens IGUAIS! Nada de adicionar outras viagens ao cartãozinho ambientalista. Resultado? Tive de comprar outro cartão, mais a viagem perfazendo um total de 1,80€ para a viagem Oeiras – Alcântara Mar.

Mais curioso ainda é o facto de ter reembolso, reembolso este que apenas é possível na empresa que vendeu o cartão e mediante talão…, ou seja, tendo em conta que o cartão tem validade de um ano e tendo em conta estes recibos brutais que perdem a cor ao fim de poucos dias…, não há reembolso para ninguém.

Isto feitas bem as contas, poupamos o ambiente apenas quando fazemos várias vezes aquela viagem, e quando isto acontece mais vale tirarmos o passe (salvo erro, o chamado Lisboa Viva). E visto que precisamos de apresentar o recibo para o reembolso, o resultado acaba no desperdicio de papel na mesma pois ao fim de uns dias o recibo passa a ser lixo, sem recibo o cartão também passa a ser lixo após o térmio da sua validade.

Afinal para que serve mesmo este cartão? Um pretexto para encaixar mais dinheiro?

Estou neste momento a morar em Alcântara onde passam 2 percursos de Eléctrico (o 18E e o 15E) e onde em tempos chegou a passar outro Eléctrico qualquer, pelo menos é o que noto junto à estação de Alcântara Terra pelo que ainda resta das antigas linhas, mas não é só aqui que se nota um abandono de troços deste veículo “verde”, também se vê as linhas abandonadas da rua que liga o Cais do Sodré ao Bairro Alto, junto aos Amoreiras e noutros mais locais por Lisboa.

É certo que os problemas que um Eléctrico avariado pode levantar são de uma dimensão bem diferente de um autocarro, por norma significa que mais nenhum eléctrico vai passar naquela via até o problema ser resolvido, significa que vários utentes vão “sofrer” por uma anomalia numa máquina que não a deles, significa que o trânsito que passa naquela zona também vai sofrer. É sinónimo de mesmo muitos problemas, mas também é certo que o planeamento pode e deve ser repensado, se antes tinha sentido os Eléctricos partilharem as vias dos restantes transportes, hoje em dia cada vez mais faz sentido justificar o uso dos transportes públicos em prol da saúde de todos. Certas linhas poderiam ser reactivadas e em simultâneo certas vias serem restritas a apenas Eléctricos tornando o transporte público como uma vantagem significativa comparando com o transporte pessoal.

Hoje em dia apanhar um autocarro ou eléctrico de pouco trás vantagem, apesar de terem algumas zonas próprias os engarrafamentos são sempre parte da variável, algo que poderia ser resolvido com um re-planeamento de todas as linhas de eléctrico. Vias própria usabilidades sem partilha com taxis e autocarros, vias mais directas e por ruas fechadas ao trânsito regular, vias que de facto dêem uma vantagem visível à  de um transporte que tem capacidade para bem mais utentes que um autocarro e com a vantagem de circular à superficie. Porque não se investe em transportes públicos dentro das grandes cidades, porque não se investe em reduzir a emissão de gazes nas cidades em vez de se pensar em TGVs? Não compreendo…

Eléctricos, um transporte ainda mantido para o turista ver quando poderia ser pensado para o cidadão usufruir.

O Inverno ainda não acabou, nem se sabe o que está para acontecer ainda, e falam-se em subsidios agrícolas de algo que aconteceu em Dezembro… Ou será que são daqueles subsidios que alguns agricultores aproveitam para derrubar vinhas ainda em estado de produção, porque têm direitos para o receber? Sou do campo e anualmente presencio situações de puro abuso, pessoas que tendo propriedades em produção optam por usar um subsidio qualquer do Governo para “re-qualificação” e reconstroem tudo recebendo ainda mais subsidios para colmatar as “perdas”… Se havia necessidade para tal? Não. Porque o fizeram? Porque lucram com isso. Agora vê-se pessoal a reclamar que os subsidios não aparecem…, quantos desses não abusaram dos direitos no passado? Se calhar estão à espera de problemas devido às chuvas para pedirem mais subsidios e antes que venham mais estragos, toca a sacar já o dinheiro ao Estado!

Isto irrita-me profundamente, é um egoismo cego. Não olham para a actualidade e colocam como prioridade o próprio umbigo.

Assim como que se de um resumo se tratasse, o que fiz foi entrar no Google Reader, ler os meus feeds onde tenho o PrintScreen na minha lista de sites a acompanhar, li a mensagem do blog do Alcides Fonseca sobre o Estado da CP, onde encontrei uma referência para uma mensagem no blog Delito de Opinião pela Ana Margarida Craveiro onde encontrei, finalmente, o artigo que queria ler e que afinal estava no site do Público. Foi uma viagem quase tão complicada como a do senhor Manuel…, a vantagem é que acabei por conhecer outros blogs que me parecem bastante interessantes

Deixando de rodeios, adoro comboios, adoro viajar de comboios e já tive a oportunidade de viajar de comboio pela Europa fora, mas tenho de dar o braço a torcer neste campo, a forma como a CP está a funcionar é simplesmente péssima e seguindo os comentários que li no artigo do público, ainda querem um TVG de Lisboa-Porto….

Nos últimos tempos tenho andando a tentar criar um roteiro para visitar os Castelos de Portugal que são acessíveis por Comboios, é um projecto que pretendo levar até ao fim e que o pretendo testar pessoalmente antes de o divulgar na sua totalidade, mas é triste saber que para ir para Óbidos vou gastar uma manhã só na viagem, vou ter de fazer 2 transbordos para usar 3 comboios e vou gastar 10,90€ quando de carro teria de fazer apenas 45kms gastando cerca de 40minutos de viagem (segundo o google maps) e os gastos, mesmo indo sozinho, nunca seriam superiores a 10€.

É pena, nunca viajei na linha do Oeste, mas com factos como estes também é complicado vir a experimentar…, talvez o faça apenas para testar o roteiro que ando a fazer, mas não deixa de ser dinheiro deitado fora pois nem as carruagens tem uma condição decente, nem sequer o preço justifica a viagem.

Sou um forte defensor dos transportes públicos, mas as alternativas deveriam ser compensatórias e é evidente que isso não acontece…, é pena…, teria imenso sentido coisas banais como uma linha urbana de comboios entre Alcântara Terra e Sta Apolónia, seria bastante útil existir uma rota alternativa de intercidades Porto-Lisboa pela linha do Oeste terminando no Rossio (estação no coração de Lisboa), seria interessante ver mais regionais com rumo às Caldas da Rainha com partida de Sta Apolónia além daqueles 2 que partem às 5 da matina (sim, já estive lá para os ver partir…). Não faltam possibilidades que poderiam facilitar a vida a imensa gente, e explorar a linha do Oeste com uma chegada directa ao centro de Lisboa seria uma dessas, não fosse essa zona a que mais congestionamentos de transito dá a Lisboa durante todas as manhãs…, talvez com um regional por hora a entrar em mesmo em Lisboa vindo de Torres Vedras poderia reduzir coisas como estas, mas se nem sequer as condições existem…

Resta-me agradecer a todos aqueles que citei no primeiro parágrafo, pois se não fosse dessa forma o artigo do Público certamente que me iria passar ao lado.
